    Please implement local trailer support.

Please implement preemptive transcoding to preferred format. This will help people with NAS’s that can stream but not transcode.

    Hey folk,

Love Plex, jsut signed up as a lifetime member. There are two features I’d love:

    1. Parental COntrols – I downloaded 9.8.1 but can’t see how to turn this on, or set permissions for different accounts? Any help greatly appreciated.

    2. Sub Folders – So I can have a Kids sections, but a folder under that for all the Dora The Explorer movies for example.

  4. Adi Zukerman July 14th, 2013 3:47 am

I 100000% agree with what Dwight said. The two features that would make this 100% replacement for what I use today is Parental Controls and Sub Folders. If you guys got this in the next version I’d be so happy I’d even become a lifetime member again. Well, at least in thought. :)

Just signed up for lifetime membership as someone who is trying to get PMS working on a Synology box… and now plexapp.com site seems to have gone down… Eeek!!
Seriously though, keep up the good work. Hope my cash helps the cause.

I would also like to see sub folders that way we can have a kids section or some sort of parental controls.
    Keep up the great work.

Local trailer support would be fantastic !
Also marking watched/unwatched from the recently added and on deck section (on the home screen)
    Keep up the great work,

  9. Dave August 27th, 2013 8:20 am

Shuffle and playlist features are severlly missing from the music

    @Dave: noted!

I would love to have “user” accounts that I can allow them access to different sections (Like parental controls)

I would also LOVE to be able to add a separate audio track so i don’t have to have Riff-trax version and a regular version.

Also Still having trouble with NAS system. I formatted all my movies and TV shows to MP4 but I keep getting a M3U8 error, Any help would be appreciated with this.

Would be great to have a Linux media player!!

Last and Final thing, I would love for Plex to allow you to store all “information” (info like posters, played/unplayed, artwork ect.) in a specific folder so when we change servers or Reinstall or even running roaming profile we don’t have gigs of files in the user profile.

I love plex thanks for the program. I have been using this program since it basically came out.

I am also quite impressed and happy with Plex. The main feature I am missing to totally switch from Apple TV & iTunes is parental controls. This actually works quite well in my Apple setup. Just enable the parental control at the client (iPad, Apple TV, …) and all movies past the set criteria get filtered out transparently and are not shown at the client.
Permissions per library and user would also work for me. I got this working with two plex pass users and the sharing feature but the problem I have now in this setup is that the second user, who I have shared context with, can not sync movies to the device. I hope parental controls or proper multi-user support can be implemented soon.

  13. Mike September 4th, 2013 7:27 am

Have to LOUDLY echo Dave’s comment… playlists, shuffle, repeat are basic music 101 features, which to me are the most glaring missing features from PMS. I have an enormous (read: unwieldy) music archive, and absolutely need to have playlist functionality to effectively stream from PMS. As it stands, I still have to use a Windows PC as middle-man to provide a streaming playlist.

  14. Mike September 4th, 2013 7:36 am

I would also love to see “party mode” functionality, which would enable a single music stream to multiple devices… say my in home audio via (insert DLNA device) and simultaneously to my Android, in the backyard connected to Big Jambox via Bluetooth.

  15. Francesco Guagliardo September 4th, 2013 8:47 am

I love plex, I think it is a great app, I would like a better version of the app for samsung smart tv with implementation to watch 3D movies.
Thank you! You are doing a great job!

I love plex thanks for the program. I have been using this program since it basically came out.

  17. Clay September 4th, 2013 6:22 pm

Just got the lifetime subscription. In addition to the ability to make folders for stuff in my Plex Queue, I would love to see the ability to live stream online live video.

    Thanks very much.

  18. Nazeer September 4th, 2013 7:44 pm

I love this beautiful software. Of course it is little painful to add a server.Port forwarding is a big headache
If plex themselves make any other option or software its grateful. I took one month to forward port. Because I am not an computer expert.

  19. Kunal September 5th, 2013 8:25 am

Been using Plex for few years now and love it.

I would love two new features if possible.

An Audiobook section that allows playback to pick up where you left off and speed manipulation with ebook version displaying text.

The multi-user, can it be changed to where a user can have the same look and feel as if it were their own plex server instead of a shared content section.

  20. Skylar September 6th, 2013 5:26 pm

Cut the cord about six months ago and use Plex religiously.

I have two tv’s and two roku players that only run Plex.

Have been waiting very patiently for the following features:

-”Play all” option for the music section
    -Shuffle option for music
-The ability to delete music content from remote devices
-Visualizations would be cool but definitely not a priority
-Also not a big priority but I have a Galaxy S3 that I stream music to (which is a bitchin feature). When I’m viewing an albums song list and my phone is in landscape mode it will only display the first song
-Hidden folders (for those adult situations)

Love Plex. Definitely getting the lifetime subscription when my one year is up.

  21. Brian September 6th, 2013 8:10 pm

I just started using Plex and I noticed when I run this on Window Home Server I have to stayed logged into the server for the PLEX server aspect to keep running.

I hope plex in the future fixes this so the server agent aspect keeps running when one would log out of the server.

  22. Brian September 6th, 2013 8:13 pm

I agree with Dwight as well. Parental control over PLEX would be awesome. especially if we can link the control over the childs log in and make it available for children that are young enough that don’t have emails yet to not have their own my plex account.

    1. Parental COntrols – I downloaded 9.8.1 but can’t see how to turn this on, or set permissions for different accounts? Any help greatly appreciated.

    2. Sub Folders – So I can have a Kids sections, but a folder under that for all the Dora The Explorer movies for example.

Hi Plex team. I love this app on my Samsung TV but I am missing trailer support. The ability to view a trailer from the movie you are about to watch.

  24. Tadeu Spada September 14th, 2013 5:05 am

    Olá Colegas,
Estou contente em poder participar como os membros Plex, deste fórum para juntos podermos compartilhar informações virtuais sociabilizáveis.
    Sou grato!

  25. Rotten Ronny September 14th, 2013 6:16 am

Access remote PMS from Roku and/or myPlex. I travel a lot and would love to access my substantial Plex library wherever I am in the world through my travelling Roku. It seems like having the ability to add my own movies to the myPlex queue — rather than only external links — would satisfy this. Cheers!

  26. W Chase September 18th, 2013 1:15 pm

As a new Lifetime member I have to also LOUDLY echo the comments… playlists, shuffle, repeat are basic music features.

  27. Peter October 11th, 2013 4:01 pm

I see this question has been asked a million times but where do I turn on the parental controls and how do I add seperate users? I use a Roku player and will be buying 4 m ore for my kids and I want them to use a “kids” account for plex; suggestions?

P.S. – I just paid for a year membership…if this parental option works to my needs I will upgrade to a lifetime member :) thank to the developers for all thier hard work and dedication!

  28. elan October 12th, 2013 9:04 am

@Peter ~ thanks for your support! Until we flesh out parental controls, add the users on my.plexapp.com, and then share with them the appropriate parts of your library.

  29. don October 22nd, 2013 7:37 pm

As a plex pass member I would also like to ask for playlist support. This feature is the one that makes this not entirely functional. I love using plex, but playlists would complete the picture for me.

  33. dcline December 19th, 2013 10:26 pm

I would like to see an audio only setting for listening to TV and Movies, but not watching on the android app. Saves on bandwidth and allows us to listen to shows in the car.

  34. Boomalator January 3rd, 2014 10:09 am

    Elan, et al:

I’m not sure what the big debate and mystery about some form of parent control is, or why it requires any great deal of “sorting out”. This is a feature on EVERY cable box rented/sold by North American providers (I think it is legally required in the US). It’s been on most TVs in chain hotels for 10 years or more.

When someone selects content that is under parental control they have to enter a four-digit PIN. Simple. Easy. Clear. Understood. Done with a standard remote.

The “create new users and share to them on my plex” is a complete non-starter for WATCHING TV. That’s what my family does. They don’t “experience a vast array of multimedia excitement”. They Watch TV. To use the current method, one has to log the Smart TV out, log it back in as another user (on the same server), watch the show/movie/content, then remember to log that user out and the other user back in, all with a standard remote.

So, basically, we either have to:
Not make any movies that aren’t suitable for a 7 year old available on the Big Screen SmartTVs (ours are Samsung, but Roku etc is the same idea), or make them all available and hope for the best.

Yes, I know that client enforcement is less secure than server enforcement, but I’m not concerned that the 13 year old is going to get a laptop, install a packet sniffer, and brute-force his way into the DLNA packets to hijack content. (Actually, I’d be almost proud.) He could torrent it easier.

I’m more concerned that under our “Media Server Movies” library the default view is “The Full Monty” is right beside “G-Force”. One is rated R, the other is rated G. They are stored in separate folders, and the Content-Rating fields are populated. (Plex will happily show the Rating Logo, it just doesn’t CARE about the rating.)

Even allowing the “by folder” view to be the default would help.

For years now, I’ve been the only one who can watch our digital media (or start it) because its always so techie to make it work. My pre-schooler can record and watch 100 episodes of “Dog with a blog” on the CableCo’s PVR, but watching a movie from the PC on the TV requires heroic effort.

Plex is helpful, it’s the easiest UI and is nearly seamless. But the lack of parental control/rating control/folder control is noticeable and disappointing.

(I’m fairly new to Plex, and this is an older thread, so if I’ve missed something, I’m happy to receive instructions or work-arounds.)

  35. elan January 3rd, 2014 1:21 pm

    @Boomalator ~ on our list :)

  36. Me January 15th, 2014 5:24 pm

play Blu-Rays and DVDs from .ISO and VIDEO_TS, please

  37. Jan January 22nd, 2014 12:35 am

@elan I started with MythTV several years ago, once I stopped recording content I switched to XBMC, and recently I tried Plex, and I’m sold. (Enough to buy a PlexPass!) And PlexSync is great, a lot easier to get content onto the iPad/iPhone for viewing offline.

I understand that parental controls have been somewhat introduced by allowed a primary account (with access to all content) to share “approved content” with a secondary account. Given the pain of logging in/out/in via a standard remote, each TV is effectively tied to a particular user and content.

Extending this model, we need clients to default/auto-login to a base account/content set, and allow login to a higher content via PIN code only, and fallback to the base account after a period of inactivity.

But you guys are the experts, fix it however you see fit, just please let 2014 be the year that parental controls makes it in.

  38. elan January 23rd, 2014 10:24 am

@Jan ~ Parental controls are very important to us too :)

  39. Mark February 17th, 2014 7:18 am

For those looking for Parental Controls:
Create another Plex account (freebie one) for your kids. Then share your media to that account, and only select which categories to share with them, i.e. “Kids Movies”.

When you setup your Roku or other device, login using the kids account, and they will only have access to kids movies. If everyone shares the one family TV, you’ll have to logon with your parents account when you want to watch an Adult show.

I know this is not exactly what you’re looking for from Plex, but until it is incorporated into the program, it is a fair workaround.

  40. James March 31st, 2014 7:01 pm

Besides parental controls, I think one way to help accomplish what I need would be to hide, or remove libraries from particular client, or have a pin number to open the library. Multiple users would be overkill for my situation.

  41. William April 1st, 2014 3:29 pm

Another voice here for parental controls. It seems that if I were to add users to accomplish this then I would have to move around content into new folders to share the new libraries, a non-starter.

  42. karl April 5th, 2014 9:03 am

Browse music by folder structure, with metadata. Please please please implement this. The current system is unusable for music.
