Introducing Cloud Sync (beta)

, | 24 Oct 2013 | by 277 Comments

As many of you know, we announced Plex Sync almost a year ago. Since then, users have synced (literally!) hundreds of terabytes of media to their iOS and Android devices, and we’ve heard stories from people using it to make their plane trips less boring, vacations more fun, and long commutes more palatable.

There are other scenarios, however, for which sync alone doesn’t help. Even though space on mobile devices is growing, our phones and tablets might not have a lot of free space for large video files. Or we may not have enough upstream bandwidth to stream video at high quality. This problem is even larger if we’re sharing our media with others, since it places our already limited upstream bandwidth under even more pressure.

Also, there may be times when you don’t have a dedicated machine to leave on when you leave your house. Maybe your only computer is a laptop, or your electricity is incredibly expensive, or you’re friends with Al Gore. Or maybe your ISP or network setup simply makes it impossible for your mobile devices to connect back home.

In our untiring quest to make your media consumption as easy and enjoyable as possible, we’ve just released a new PlexPass feature called Cloud Sync, which provides you with a powerful solution for all these scenarios. With Cloud Sync, you can now sync your media to cloud storage providers such as DropBox and Google Drive. Your media is optimized for streaming and uploaded, along with the rich metadata you know and love. It’s like having a media server that’s always on and has great streaming speeds!

One of the coolest features of Cloud Sync is the ability to configure multiple storage providers, and set individual limits for each. You can then create a smart sync rule (“Newest 20 movies added to my Movie library”, for example) and the videos will be uploaded and spread across different providers as needed.

2013 10 27 at 10 53 PM

Once your cloud sync completes, you can turn off your server, and access all your media online from any Plex app. No need to worry about limited upstream bandwidth, or whether your mom is streaming that latest soccer video of her grandkids ten times in a row.

When your media server comes online again, view progress will be synced, because that seamless Plex ecosystem you know and love extends up to the cloud.

And as we hinted at earlier, you can also share your cloud-synced libraries just like any other library. And it looks and works just like any other library too, except it’s got a puffy white cloud on it.

In order to use Cloud Sync, you need to download the freshly released Plex Media Server v. (getting awfully close to 1.0, aren’t we?). You can browse the extensive changes in minute detail here, but I’ll summarize the juiciest changes below. Then, visit the new Cloud Sync providers page and link your accounts. And finally (aren’t there always three steps to profiting?) select the new Cloud Sync target when syncing.

2013 10 27 at 11 21 PM

Just to note, we consider Cloud Sync a beta. We’ll be making tweaks over the next weeks as we get feedback, so please leave your impressions and comments in our new Cloud Sync forum.

Here’s what’s new in El Server De Media:

  • Cloud Sync. It’s shiny, it’s new, it’s awesome.
  • It seems like 64-bit is all the rage these days. We’ve updated the OS X version to be 64-bit. It’s faster, more modern and, let’s face it, 64 is bigger than 32. Our media server goes up to way past 11.
  • We’ve made some important sync fixes. We fixed an issue that could lead to a slow down or hang, and we fixed another issue where the server (in the case of a transient network issue) would re-transcode everything, which could in turn lead to iOS refusing to play synced content.
  • We’ve massively improved scanning speed. Our canonical test of scanning in 1400 movies from scratch went from taking over four hours to just 50 minutes. Music and photo scanning is also much faster, and will use all your processors. In addition, we’ve eliminated Turbo Scan, and just made the regular deep scan much faster. So the end result is just fast, reliable scanning. Don’t believe me? Ask a PlexPass user who helped us test out the new scanner: “I just ran the new improved scan and nearly got whiplash.  WOW, THAT IS FAST.  I used to dread updating certain library sections often because it took forever … it’s just ridiculously fast now.  THANKS!
  • Display of unwatched episodes was very slow.
  • We fixed some crashes streaming RTMP video.
  • iTunes playlists were mysteriously missing.
  • Playback of some videos ended prematurely on ATV 6.0.
  • There was some annoying green fringing on subtitles (many thanks to Rodger Combs for the fix).

This release, as always, is brought to you by the indefatigable Barkley Bonestein. It’s been a while, so you get two photos.

Will the cloud providers be added to or is this the list? Any love coming for SkyDrive?

  2. Enra October 28th, 2013 8:38 am

I’d like to see support :-)

  3. elan October 28th, 2013 8:40 am

@ben ~ it’s quite possible more providers will be added in time, based on both feedback we receive and the level of API integration with the providers.

  4. Moteeph October 28th, 2013 8:43 am

And here I thought you took all of our plexpass $$$ and bought your own island. Excellent news, can’t wait to try it out. Keep up the great work.

  5. dave October 28th, 2013 8:47 am

Amazing new feature. I read about this a while back when you guys were at CES and it made complete sense. So glad my lifetime Plex Pass continues to pay huge dividends.

I’m assuming we are liable for any copyrighted uploaded to these cloud providers correct? I ask because uploading this type of content violates the TOS for most if not all of these companies.

  6. copertino October 28th, 2013 8:53 am

Since I upgraded to Mavericks my HD content is stuttering. Latest PMS installed playback through Plex Desktop. Anyone there with same problems?

  7. Dan October 28th, 2013 8:54 am

A solution for people who have our own remote servers would be awesome. I have a VPS with 100GB and would love to be able to sync some content to that from time to time.

  8. Chris October 28th, 2013 8:56 am

What about using bittorrent sync for this? Completely negates the need to worry about space with the third party provider?

  9. shinratdr October 28th, 2013 8:57 am

Looks awesome but I’m having trouble linking my account. It says that my account needs to support direct linking? Does that require a paid account?

  10. Ryan October 28th, 2013 8:59 am

    +1 for integration :)

  11. Henric October 28th, 2013 8:59 am

Amazon S3 buckets should be on that list!

    Great job dudes!

  12. Marty October 28th, 2013 8:59 am

For Box I seem to get: “Your Box account does not support direct links.”

Does Box only work for paid accounts?

  13. Shakti October 28th, 2013 9:06 am

Looks awesome :) Would you consider adding in support for bitcasa? Unlimited online storage with encryption at source and my full library is already uploaded there.

  14. can October 28th, 2013 9:08 am

    Would BitCasa be possible?

  15. andy October 28th, 2013 9:09 am

Adding support for Bitcasa Infinite would be amazing, please add it! Pretty Please!

  16. elan October 28th, 2013 9:09 am

@Marty/shinratdr ~ sorry, a premium Box subscription is required.

  17. jkrisotph October 28th, 2013 9:10 am

Brilliant update however I am not very clear how its used…

One of the coolest features of Cloud Sync is the ability to configure multiple storage providers, and set individual limits for each. You can then create a smart sync rule (“Newest 20 movies added to my Movie library”, for example) and the videos will be uploaded and spread across different providers as needed.

Where can I set these Smart Sync Rules?

And as we hinted at earlier, you can also share your cloud-synced libraries just like any other library. And it looks and works just like any other library too, except it’s got a puffy white cloud on it.

And how do I share these libraries?

  18. Damjan October 28th, 2013 9:11 am

Sadly now it doesn’t run on a Core Duo iMac with 10.6. I guess it is the 64 bit. Could you provide a 32 bit version also?

  19. Ben October 28th, 2013 9:11 am

@elan Wicked news, and wicked feature, cool about the possibility of more providers, and consider an official +1 for skydrive from me then ;-)

  20. Mark October 28th, 2013 9:14 am

Having Own Cloud support would be pretty nice.

  21. Marty October 28th, 2013 9:15 am

    Sounds about right.

Would be good if there was a progress bar on uploads :)

  22. cookieofbliss October 28th, 2013 9:16 am

    Looks awesome ;)
What about integration of OwnCloud? Would be great!

  23. Rouven Hurling October 28th, 2013 9:16 am

I’m with @Dan October on this one.
Would be awesome to easily move data from local to remote server! :)

  24. elan October 28th, 2013 9:17 am

@jkrisotph ~ syncing rules are set same as “normal” sync, just use the filters and then hit the “sync” button. Sharing is also done same as always, at

  25. Rouven Hurling October 28th, 2013 9:17 am

@cookieofbliss if you’ve got owncloud you’ll need your own server… so you could just install Plex Media Server for Linux and everything would be running (using the same setup)

  26. psiete October 28th, 2013 9:29 am

PMS is the last MacOSX 32bit version? Will there be more?

  27. Dale Jacobs October 28th, 2013 9:32 am

BitCasa ~! no storage limits = a dream.

  28. Erik October 28th, 2013 9:36 am

So, what is doing the encoding when you store on the cloud?

  29. Jan October 28th, 2013 9:43 am

    +1 for Bitcase support :-)

  30. Jan October 28th, 2013 9:44 am

    Bitcasa that is

  31. Mark October 28th, 2013 10:16 am

Any chance a Wireless HD (like Seagates) could be added? There are lots of times I don’t have an internet connection on my mobile device, I’ll love to be able to use Plex to manage and watch my videos still.. pretty please?

  32. John October 28th, 2013 10:21 am

Very slick!! Plex just gets better and better! Now, if you guys introduced a comic book section/reader with metadata scraping and all that, I would name my first-born after you:) Never-the-less, all the hard work is appreciated!

  33. Mark October 28th, 2013 10:25 am

@Rouven I have my owncloud running on a dedicated Atom server thats costing me less than £5 a month, but doesn’t have enough power to run as a full Plex server with transcoding

I guess the same goes for people running Owncloud in a rented virtual server. You can rent a vps with not much processing power but decent amounts of storage space pretty cheaply these days.

  34. Geo October 28th, 2013 10:31 am

You guys rock!, very cool plexpass addition….what’s next, Chromecast maybe??????

  35. Eddie Seelke October 28th, 2013 10:44 am

This will get you an extra 5GB of free data with Copy.

    20GB of free storage

  36. cryptochrome (@cryptochrome) October 28th, 2013 10:50 am

Awesome release, thank you. And I second the vote: Bitcasa! Infinite Storage!

  37. Draic October 28th, 2013 11:19 am

Nice new feature. I just hope that the Windows 8 App will get Sync at some point :(

  38. Evan October 28th, 2013 12:01 pm

I would love BitTorrent Sync support.

  39. neckaros October 28th, 2013 12:04 pm

Any chance for 32bits mac version?

  40. adam October 28th, 2013 12:26 pm

I’m relieved to see some Barkley photos. There haven’t been any for a while and I was getting worried!

  41. Rustla October 28th, 2013 2:12 pm

+1 for 32-bit support if possible, can’t upgrade my mini just yet…

  42. Alex Hay October 28th, 2013 2:21 pm

So glad you included Copy. I’ve got 27 gigs with them now and haven’t paid a penny.

Use this link if you want a free 5 gigs!

  43. chenzen October 28th, 2013 2:24 pm

    +1 skydrive

  44. Syke October 28th, 2013 2:30 pm

Darn, 50gb free that I never use, STILL can’t use. You need a paid account to allow direct linking for Plex Cloud.

  45. Mark Dart October 28th, 2013 2:37 pm

    Skydrive Support Please

  46. Scot October 28th, 2013 2:56 pm

    Bitcasa….+1,000,00….unlimited storage…that’s perfect…

  47. Didier October 28th, 2013 3:10 pm

    +1 for Skydrive

  48. Ivan October 28th, 2013 3:15 pm

Nifty! Make it work with my queue and you’ll have me as a paying customer again :D

  49. TTLequals0 October 28th, 2013 3:40 pm

Skydrive would be a nice addition because i just got a free 200 gb promotion.

One question though what about bandwidth limits from dropbox, goggle drive etc. for example i know dropbox has a 10gb limitation the public folder /shared link. How is plex going to handle this or does it not count because it is syncing to the cloud and not sharing it.

as mentioned before is there going to be support for remote file servers like

  50. tim October 28th, 2013 3:54 pm

An awesome update! +1 for Bitcasa. My entire library is gonna end up there one way or another. I’d much rather it be with Plex!

  51. Christian October 28th, 2013 4:13 pm

Thank you, great update! Another vote for Bitcasa! :)

  52. JSKershaw October 28th, 2013 4:17 pm

If you’re new to cloud you can use this link to get an extra 5GB of data on top of the 15GB they give you to start. Perfect way to use the new Plex Cloud Sync.

  53. Southern Gal (@sogalitno) October 28th, 2013 4:18 pm

    BITCASA please and mega too!

thanks… hoping its going to work on my 32 bit… trying it now.

  54. OdGregg October 28th, 2013 6:29 pm

    +1 for SkyDrive please

  55. Roopesh October 28th, 2013 7:36 pm

“Our media server goes up to way past 11″ but not up to 1.0 (yet)! I’ll be giving this a try soon. Thanks!

  56. jamauai October 28th, 2013 7:37 pm

BITCASA pleeease! With Dropbox, Google Drive, Copy, and Box I can NEVER upload every single family video, vacation picture, music playlist that I own! With Bitcasa I have INFINITE STORAGE, it only makes complete sense to add it to the Cloud Sync list!!! No I don’t work for Bitcasa, but Im a strong believer of unlimited storage. PLEEASE!

  57. Roopesh October 28th, 2013 7:37 pm

Oh yeah, +1 for own cloud or whatever you want to call us geeks with underutilized VPS or dedicated servers.

  58. wally007 October 28th, 2013 7:39 pm

… and here we come with referral links. What is it about cloud storage that makes all car dealer type folks with their referral links come alive ?

  59. Nicholas Fitchett October 28th, 2013 7:43 pm

How about pogo plug. Already works in many ways. I’m already paying to use them as a backup, would be great to stream from them through plex

  60. Ronnie October 28th, 2013 9:15 pm

Awesome feature!! :) Just missing link with Bitcasa too!! :D

  61. PiEleX October 28th, 2013 9:55 pm

    Interesting feature! :)

    One vote for crashplan. Reasons:
    - Unlimited storage for a reasanoble price
    - client-side encryption! (even provider doesn’t know what’s stored)
    - my synology (where PMS runs on) supports it ;)

    MEGA would be interesting, too.

  62. Lupin03 October 28th, 2013 10:24 pm

    The min requirements states:
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard of higher.
A Mac with Intel Core Duo processor or better.

Is this still the case with the latest 64bit update?

  63. jakepe October 28th, 2013 10:58 pm

    Bitcasa +1 !!!

  64. explodingworlds October 28th, 2013 11:01 pm

great thing! bitcasa would be cool…

  65. Ruud October 28th, 2013 11:38 pm

I’m very concerned about legal issues? Have you thought about that? Whether the source of the database of Plex is legally or illegally obtained, would making a ‘copy’ on one of the providers not violate countries or services TOS? Of even laws?

  66. jaithn October 29th, 2013 12:05 am

i would love to see support for bittorrent sync and owncloud :)

  67. desktop sync October 29th, 2013 12:18 am

please elan and plex team add the ability to sync files offline for the desktop plex application on win/osx/linux. laptops are mobile devices too!

i’m waiting to have that together, to make plexpass worth it for me. cloud sync is there, i was waiting for that too. LAN/internet caching is such a superb idea.

with bitcasa i would only need to sync the stuff that i deem essential and leave all the other files offsite and secure.

  68. Eirik October 29th, 2013 12:24 am

Bitcasa needs an public API before Plex can support it.

  69. copy love October 29th, 2013 12:25 am

i too finally managed to sign up for copy and used the link from someone above.
if anyone could use my link, i’d be thankful.

we both get 5GB EXTRA, for you that means you start with 20GB.

  70. plexuser October 29th, 2013 12:41 am

The crowd asks Bitcasa, however not in the hands of Elan include it because Bitcasa unfortunately still has no public API. Here a discussion forum on the topic:

  71. plexuser October 29th, 2013 12:53 am

    In MyPlex currently reads:

Add a linked Cloud Sync storage provider:

    Should read:

    -Box (paid account)

  72. il France October 29th, 2013 12:53 am

Great feature, i’m trying it already but i have some questions:
any way to see some details of the upload progress? (% done, upload speed)
any way to limit the upload speed?

  73. Pedro Fardilha October 29th, 2013 1:24 am

    Hi there.
I think that Cloud Sybnc is a great idea.
Will, eventually WebDAV be added to the storage options?
I’m using ownCloud ( ) and would love to be able to integrate both.

Thank you and keep up the good work.

  74. Patrick October 29th, 2013 1:41 am

If you want to use the new Plex Cloud Sync and create a account, you can use that link to get an extra 5GB of data on top of the 15GB they give you.

  75. Zokizo October 29th, 2013 2:06 am is really great. If you’re new to cloud you can use this link to get an extra 5GB of data on top of the 15GB they give you to start. Perfect way to use the new Plex Cloud Sync.

So you get 20 GB total of storage!!

  76. Andreas October 29th, 2013 2:15 am

    Hi Elan

As Always great work! A question thou. If I cloudsync a file and keep my media server one. When I look at that video, say on my iphone, will it load it from the mediaserver och the cloud then as standard? Is that a feature you can switch on and off? I mean which Place is default streaming from Place.

  77. Drew October 29th, 2013 3:14 am

This is exactly the feature I needed for my Plex server! The other Copy referral links for 5 extra Gbs of space are full so here’s another one that still works:

  78. Alex October 29th, 2013 3:22 am

Please add support for Bitcasa! Pleaseee

  79. Niko October 29th, 2013 3:49 am

This is so cool! I really hope Jotta will be supported.. because with Jotta you get unlimited storage for $6 a month!

  80. Jos October 29th, 2013 3:50 am

Vote for owncloud as well Copy seems nice as well.
If anyone wants to start with 20 instead of 15 GB:

  81. Niko October 29th, 2013 4:18 am

Never mind Jotta, I just checked out Bitcasa.. go for Bitcasa!

  82. Mark October 29th, 2013 4:29 am

Can’t wait to get home and try this I just signed up for myself to link my server to, see link below

  83. acachau October 29th, 2013 4:33 am

Bitcasa offers the only real way to enjoy this new feature. PLEASE, add it. And thanks again for the awesome job you guys made…

A very happy Plex user from France…

  84. Plexy00 October 29th, 2013 4:58 am

Awesome feature! A vote for SkyDrive and Bitcasa support!

For those of you who want a free 20gb account to use with CloudSync, use this link (15GB + 5GB Bonus):

  85. Apostol Apostolov October 29th, 2013 5:05 am

There are so many requests for smaller, better priced, better spaced storage companies, but guys – be realistic – many of those companies do not support API for developers or public links that client can access.

  86. Keir October 29th, 2013 5:53 am

    Fantastic feature!
Just wondering however, will you be adding the ability for say me and a friend to sync our library’s over the net?

  87. Nathan October 29th, 2013 5:57 am

Little unclear on how this is “supposed” to work…I’ve linked up a GoogleDrive…tried to sync an album, but don’t see anything coming across? After a couple hours, CloudSync status page in MyPlex page says <1mb used…can't see much info in the GoogleDrive screens, other that Plex was able to successfully create a "Plex Cloud Sync" folder….

In Plex/Web, in the "Activity" section, the "CloudSync" just has a "?" mark over the song I tried to send to GoogleDrive….

Don't see a forum yet for CloudSync, so thought I'd post here first….

  88. Aaron October 29th, 2013 5:59 am

Please integrate with an unlimited provider, like crashplan or carbonite or mozy or bitcasa and personal type solution like FTP.

    Client-side encryption/decryption is a must!

  89. duudz0r October 29th, 2013 6:03 am

Are the new Synology NAS devices (DS214 and DS414) supported now? Although these are quite new devices i would love support for my 414 !

    Keep up the good work!

  90. Ryan October 29th, 2013 6:05 am

    +1 for SkyDrive

  91. blackened October 29th, 2013 6:10 am

cool…so, PMC for mac is vaporware?

  92. Aldebahran October 29th, 2013 6:15 am

@PiEleX – Crashplan is not cloud storage but cloud backup… Simply install Crashplan on the same box as your PMS and backup it… I have my 5Tb backup in nearly real time to Crashplan with no problem whatsoever, so no need for a special Crashplan feature in Plex…

  93. jamauai October 29th, 2013 6:23 am

Why can’t we just play what we already have uploaded to the cloud rather than having to sync everything across? Doesn’t that mean we’re limited to how many GB/TB we have in our homes? Limits suck.

  94. kRysavy October 29th, 2013 6:31 am

You guys keep delivering just what I wished for. I bought unlimited lifetime cloud recently from livedrive (DrivePop) though, so the current wish will have to be for their addition to your cloud provider list…. thanks for all the great improvement that just keep coming. Plex is THE BEST!

  95. Frankie October 29th, 2013 6:34 am

I’m so happy that you guys are moving in this direction. I been thinking about this for some time and I still struggle with some of the realities of what I believe the average Plex user will encounter.

    1) Storage in the cloud is still at a premium. The many backup services that exist that offer unlimited storage do so with the assumption that the overall bandwidth will be very low. In other words when I put something into the cloud on doing it for backup as opposed to using the service like a hard drive. So services like Carbonite will not be good candidates for this type of activity

    2) my library continues to grow and the only thing I can do is throw terabyte hard drives at it. as we speak I’m using 2.5 TB distributed over 41 TB hard drives. My point is I believe I have an average size library and with the providers being offered with Cloud Sync, my spend for storage will be approximately 100+ dollars a month.

    3) I believe the ultimate way that this gets solved is to use a service like Amazon S3… of course you always have the bandwidth issues.

I don’t have a lot of shares on my servers but moving to the cloud will start to force me to severely monitor every single connection because ultimately it could end up costing a lot of money.

That said I’m really excited that you guys are moving in the right direction.

  96. Rafael Gaspar October 29th, 2013 6:38 am

Really like the feature, but like someone have already suggested here, please add Amazon S3 as an option, it’s very cheap, and you pay exactly for what you use.

  97. Corey October 29th, 2013 6:38 am

Skydrive would be ideal for Win8 users.

  98. Mike Simpson October 29th, 2013 6:41 am

    Please add Pogoplug, too.

  99. MaxC October 29th, 2013 6:46 am

I uninstalled Plex a long time ago, as there are no simple PIN/password controls to block access to different libraries.

I got excited with all of the new features released in the last few months, installed again, and still no simple protection features.

Plex is awesome and I paid for it, but if the dullards at Comcast can figure out how to allow PIN-protection so the kids can’t get into HBO & Showtime, surely the Plex guys can do the same.

I guess I need to uninstall again.

How about the integration of Then people can setup their own cloud storages.

  105. MJB October 29th, 2013 7:23 am

Can you allow multiple accounts to be linked with providers. E.g. spreading the available space on multiple google drive accounts for example – yours & the wife’s.

  106. Kyle October 29th, 2013 7:27 am

Very cool update! Thank you. My server has limited resources so with CloudSync I can sync some movies for my nephew to watch whenever without him impacting my server on a whim!

Still waiting on parental controls though… :)

    Thanks Plex Team!

  107. Jacob October 29th, 2013 7:44 am

I’d love to see skydrive because i have 25gb there and mega because it is simply more space. But thank you sooooooooooo much of cloud sync ive wanted it since day one.

  108. hue tang October 29th, 2013 8:06 am

please add pogoplug as an option for cloud sync.

  109. Rob October 29th, 2013 8:29 am

I used one of the referral’s from above to get the extra 5GB – use mine and remember to ask the same when you post your referral link!!!

  115. Samer October 29th, 2013 8:53 am

    “create a smart sync rule”

Where? Only thing I see is this:

  120. Russ October 29th, 2013 9:32 am

I could have sworn bitcasa released their API…hopefully you guys are looking into them :) There would be no more manual uploads since I only use bitcasa for my content.

  121. Casper October 29th, 2013 9:34 am

    Never mind, got it.

  122. Ben October 29th, 2013 9:46 am

Signed up using someone’s Copy referral link…

Anyone want to continue the chain? :)

  123. Drew October 29th, 2013 9:58 am

Forget Amazon S3 where there are charges for bandwidth… what about Amazon Cloud Drive (no bandwidth cost)? Same thing as Google Drive.

  124. elan October 29th, 2013 10:15 am

@casper – use the rich filtering to create your smart rule and then add limits when you make the sync rule.

  125. Peter Horoszowski October 29th, 2013 10:22 am

    A +1 for Amazon S3 Buckets.

  126. markok October 29th, 2013 10:34 am

I wote for “Copy” and in the event you want extra 5GB storage you can register by using my referal link :)

  127. byron October 29th, 2013 10:39 am

I would definitely like to get skydrive support, I’ve got 300gb of space available from MS with my subscription services.

  128. SeattleSandro October 29th, 2013 10:46 am

Just synced some content and can’t wait to see how it works. In most cases I still prefer to sync directly to a device so I have access to my videos while I don’t have an Internet connection to use for streaming, but this does fill in a nice gap. PlexPass continues to be totally worth it.

  129. mickemus October 29th, 2013 11:09 am

  133. Jason Sturgeon October 29th, 2013 12:39 pm

I was wondering if Livedrive will be added to cloud list, I have 7 TB on my live drive and would be amazing if I could access it with plex. They already have it set up so I can stream it on my phone or a pc from their servers.

  134. dryicebomb October 29th, 2013 12:57 pm

Any chance we can see an option in the future to limit the upload speed on the sync feature?

  135. Str8red October 29th, 2013 1:58 pm

    Add Bitcasa please!

  136. elronino October 29th, 2013 1:59 pm

Keep the copy account chain moving… In the positive direction. You get 5 and so do I, win win for an awesome sync experience.

  137. Scott Curtis October 29th, 2013 3:36 pm

Nice feature, but worthless to me without SkyDrive support (not to mention Windows Phone support).

  138. Corey October 29th, 2013 5:37 pm

I’m currently testing with Copy and seems to be working well.

So I’ll troll for you to use my referral, too.

  139. Corey October 29th, 2013 5:38 pm

I don’t see where you set up the “Smart Sync” rules, though, like “10 most recent” titles.

  140. Corey October 29th, 2013 5:49 pm

Its clear where you can manually toggle the filters to upload the 10 movies you select after you sort my “Date Added,” but unless I’m missing something, I don’t see how you automate something like “Always keep the last 10 movies I’ve added synced with the cloud.”

    Is therE?

  141. Mike October 29th, 2013 6:03 pm

Until this release I was unaware of all the cloud storage options. Copy is one I just learned of using a link someone left that allowed them to get a 5G space bonus, a link like this one.

I wanted to try Copy because they offer 20G for free, much better than all others I found.

The problem is Copy is not syncing anything aside from a folder named “Plex Cloud Sync”.. has anyone gotten Copy to work? With all the free space and bonus options this is the one I’m really hoping to use.

DropBox did work perfectly and I’ve not yet tried any others.

  142. matt October 29th, 2013 6:24 pm

For some reason I can no longer sign into myplex account from Plex/Web after updating :(.

  143. Silvio Ricardo October 29th, 2013 7:43 pm

    add mediafire support ^^

  144. crusher October 29th, 2013 10:18 pm

I run a dedicated server with a friend for 60$
i7-3770k, 16gb RAM, 1 Gbit downstream and 100Mbit upstream, so theoretically, it is able to handle 10x10Mbit Full HD streaming parallel (we have only 6 users). Allowed outgoing traffic is a maximum of 15 TB per month
I think this is the best solution if you have some buddies to share the server cost.

  145. Nick October 29th, 2013 11:09 pm

Where are our trailers??? Removed feature that has been promised for years. I even bought a lifelong plexpass to support this feature. What a disappointment.

  146. Matt October 29th, 2013 11:43 pm

Thanks for the great work in v10 of the server – amazingly faster!

I’m testing out Copy as my cloud – I think I need a little more space to ensure it works – sign-up and we both win…

  147. cunningmunki October 30th, 2013 12:07 am integration for me too please!

Support to BitCasa will definitely make me a FlexPass subscriber

  150. Marcus hardaway October 30th, 2013 2:51 am

I use pogoplug to store me media. Would it be possible in the future to stream directly from there? That would be greAt since I already pay for unlimited cloud storage there.

  151. Thomas October 30th, 2013 2:52 am

An awesome update indeed, my gratitude is given!
Can you make the Sync function work with SKYDRIVE? Its the only cloud service that I have a lot of space available. Please oh please!

  152. Squick October 30th, 2013 2:59 am

Would really love to see support for either BitCasa, Crashplan, or Backblaze.

  153. Curbob October 30th, 2013 3:59 am

with Comcast, I found that getting a business class internet connection didn’t cost any more per month than regular internet (you just have to buy the router) you then get unlimited bandwidth (regular has a 250g a month limit) So I can share my plex movies with anyone and not worry about bandwidth (my bandwidth a month is around 800G download and 200G upload) This is also an option other than paying for a cloud provider. But also you may need a plex server that can handle multiple connections, my linux server usually has 3 tv within the house, a friend and sometimes an ipad and other tablet connected and I haven’t seen a problem yet.

I would rather get this all running from home than have to rely on a cloud provider that will at some time shut down or decide what “type” of files are allowed on their service.

  154. greedo October 30th, 2013 5:53 am

    +1 for Bitcasa!

  155. Fredrik October 30th, 2013 7:11 am

    Great new features, thanks!

But when I try to sync to the cloud it gets stuck in uploading. Tried different things, no difference.

  156. James Bianco October 30th, 2013 7:37 am

Please add Bitcasa to cloudsync list! Bitcasa would be the perfect answer to any mediaholics dream to be synced with the beautiful Plex!

+1 For SkyDrive. I know there have been and continue to be promotions for Microsoft products that include 200GB of SkyDrive. Long standing members of hotmail/ got some extra Skydrive space as well as folks that purchase Surface devices also get 150GB of Skydrive.

  161. DFury October 30th, 2013 1:46 pm

Really great feature. However, being one of the people solidly in the “lacking upload bandwidth” category (<1mb)…I really need a upload-throttling ability. I don't want to risk this choking my overall throughput.

I'd prefer it to sip bandwidth over trying to jam content into the cloud as quickly as possible. I'm perfectly willing to let a high-quality transcode take a couple of days to upload at, say, 200kb/sec.

  162. Rafael Gaspar October 30th, 2013 1:50 pm

@drew I know S3 have a cost for storage and bandwidth, but if you want a more reliable option, with options to store the data in a data center closer to you, etc, it’s a better option. And it’s not that expensive after all.

  163. ElCapitano October 30th, 2013 2:03 pm

I would love it, if you could choose to have the latest 2 episodes of selected Tv-Shows synced . .

Haven’t found a way to do that?

  164. elan October 30th, 2013 7:52 pm

OK, sorry guys, but not posting any more referral links. It was getting a bit out of hand :)

  165. Fredrick October 30th, 2013 10:47 pm

Would love if the sync could be initialized from mobile app.

Example; I am away (or a friend are viewing library), want to watch a movie, find it and click sync. Then getting a push notification when it’s cloud uploaded and possible to watch.

Then have a addon to the rules that if the space is maxed out, remove the oldest.

  166. Peaknuckle October 31st, 2013 3:30 am

For everyone soliciting peers with a Copy link for a bonus 5GB: use it yourself with a secondary email account, then share a folder with that secondary account to effectively double your storage allowance through Copy’s Fair Share feature. You’re welcome. :)

If you delete local content from library, that has been synced via CloudSync, will the CloudSync content be deleted also? I’m hoping that’s not the case. Once Bitcasa is supported, I’d like to back up my library there, and delete my local content

  175. fnaught November 3rd, 2013 3:28 pm

+1 for Crashplan please.Great service and fast.

  176. Marc November 3rd, 2013 10:37 pm

Here’s another request to add Livedrive to the list of cloud services you can sync with as I have one of the original unlimited storage accounts with them. That alone would turn me into a paid Plex subscriber overnight.

  177. jamauai November 4th, 2013 4:42 pm

What about media content that is ALREADY on our cloud storage services? Will Plex Cloud Sync automatically recognize them as available and optimize them for streaming? Or do we need to have our media content available at home, then use Cloud Sync to “sync” them up to our cloud services? Wouldn’t that create duplicate files?

  178. Chris November 4th, 2013 4:46 pm

    +1 for OwnCloud!

  179. Cees H. November 5th, 2013 1:31 am

Guys, my compliments. This had been a wish of mine for some time now.
Indeed, like many others here I think adding BITCASA would be awesome.
The costs for BITCASA are low and there is indeed unlimited space.
I already use about 5TB in the Bitcasa Cloud. Sofar…so good.
But already great we can testrun with Dropbox and so. Super.

Thank you to the person who clicked my copy link and signed up, got an extra 5gb for free. Certainly would not mind a couple others doing the same: [no more links!] even though Cloud Sync is not yet working correctly with Copy but I trust it will be soon.

  182. Olivier November 6th, 2013 1:22 am

Great feature but Skydrive is missing here. Everybody I know are using Skydrive. Please add this

  183. owlboy November 6th, 2013 9:55 am

Bitcasa please. Why would you ever need anything else once Bitcasa is in?

Just so everyone knows: BITCASA DOES NOT YET HAVE AN API. I am sure Plex will add support for it as soon as they do.

  184. Jason November 7th, 2013 1:22 am

Would be nice if we could add more than one account per provider. Useful to me especially for services that I have both professional and personal accounts with (i.e. Google Drive)

  185. Tristan November 8th, 2013 10:15 am

Cool feature, but you should make it more clear that only PAID Box accounts are supported. I started a Plex Pass subscription just for this feature with my 50GB free Box space .. I don’t want to pay a Box subscription too.

  186. Av3ng3 November 9th, 2013 1:13 am

I love this feature!!! You should make this compatible with PogoPlug as well!!!

  187. Sepp November 9th, 2013 9:15 am

Please fix iOS apps before you add new, not working features like sync!

  188. robert November 11th, 2013 6:20 pm

I would like to see support for as a storage backend. I know they use standard protocols so setup should be easy.

  189. Carl November 12th, 2013 9:33 am

Feature request : plex pass purchase via Google Play, maybe as an in app purchase or a separate app/key

  190. Scott November 13th, 2013 4:21 am

    +1 Bitcasa.

They let you do $10 a month for all the storage you want… or a free 10 gigs.

  191. Jan November 14th, 2013 12:27 am

Please add support for owncloud, that’d be great!

  192. Jeff November 14th, 2013 6:49 pm

Server side encryption is almost a must have. There are documented cases (referenced by someone above) of MS and Google disabling accounts because of what they believed to be copyright violations. “Believed to be” is the key phrase – the user had commercial movies in their cloud drive so they shut down the account. No inquiries into their legality at all. The number of cases is low, so far, but services are so integrated these days that for me losing my google account would be brutal – gmail, g+, google voice, android, etc.

And thats what both MS and Google did to their ‘customers’ – completely disabled their user accounts.

So personally something like this won’t be of use until I can ensure that the files are encrypted before being ‘put on the wire’ and are decrypted only by the receiving client.

It’s actually a trivial thing – I’m pretty surprised you didn’t offer this as an option at least. There are a ton of open source applications and libraries to take care of this – it’s simply adding them to each client that would take time.

Great start – for now I guess I will use it for family videos and photos.

  193. Victor Tramp November 14th, 2013 7:11 pm

Support for owncloud would win lifetime membership from me, immediately..

  194. Techstar November 14th, 2013 8:12 pm

  195. Joel November 15th, 2013 6:45 pm

Lets keep the Copy referally chain going! I am up to 30 gigs! Add me for an extra 5 gigs for you and 5 for me!!

    [link removed]

    Cloudsync rocks!!

  196. Victor Tramp November 15th, 2013 8:38 pm

@Jeff host your stuff on owncloud (it’s literally your own cloud, as in you own it, and the hardware it runs on, it’s not a service that someone else runs that you have no control of) and you don’t have to worry about losing the account.

remember, if you’re not paying for it, YOU are the product, and the company who runs the service sells you.

  197. Victor Tramp November 15th, 2013 8:41 pm

Not to spam the thread.. but since this page doesn’t let me edit my comments…

Last thing I have to say is; it makes precious little sense for Plex *NOT* to support OwnCloud, given the DIY nature of PMS itself!

And even if not owncloud specifically, webdav support in general would be a huge win.

  198. Talon November 16th, 2013 7:22 am

Copy appears to be the front runner for this sync feature so far.
20GB free (15GB+5GB from referral link) and shared folders don’t count against your own space unlike others.
    [link elided]

    Box requires paid account.

Dropbox doesn’t start with near as much space and takes quite a bit of work and referrals to get close to 20GB.

Google Drive does not give out as much space as well. Also there is fear of account termination for using storage to host video files.

We both get 5GB free if you signup to Copy using my link:

  201. tsv163 November 19th, 2013 12:48 pm

Bitcasa opens their API for developers!

And the next thing they’ve done is raising costs for unlimited plan. $99 per month instead of ten bucks. But those of us who already had an account with unlimited subscription shouldn’t be worried, I guess. At least there is still a yearly invoice scheduled with this price in my account settings. :)

BUT, thats not a point. Developers API available now, so should we expect service integration? :)

  202. Christian November 22nd, 2013 8:46 pm

Now that bitcasa isn’t a deal anymore, can Open Drive become an option?

  203. Steve Magoo November 22nd, 2013 9:25 pm

DrivePop, Mypcbackup, OpenDrive, Owncloud, Tonido and numerous other cloud storage service have support for webdav. Come on Bitcasa refugees!

Go to this feature request to rank this feature up!

Dunno about you guys but OpenDrive is freakin’ sl00000w for me. Yet again, ADD Bitcasa support. You should’t drop off existing members just because some people didn’t use their chance to subscribe in time.

  206. Jacob November 28th, 2013 5:34 am

I’d love to see skydrive support and possibly owncloud support. Also id love to have the ability to have multiple of the same account because i have 3 Google accounts for various reasons and don’t even use drive on 2 of them.

It took me a few tries to realize the way to get “20 Newest Movie Downloads” to automatically sync, and I see a few questions above but no answers, so thought I’d share…

You need to select your movie library, then apply the “Recently Added” or “Recently Released” filter from the left hand side bar. Only AFTER you select that filter should you hit the Sync button.

Then, from the sync options, choose how many you want to limit your sync to “By Number of Items” and if you want, choose “Unwatched” in the checkbox.

Once finished, click the “Check Sync Status” link in the popup and you can confirm it’s syncing the movies you intended.

I was trying to find an option for “Most Recent” in the sync options, but you need to make that selection before choosing the Sync button.

In any case, if helpful, please use my Copy invitation here to get us both 5GB free storage:

  210. Zaiken64 December 4th, 2013 1:34 pm

It would work better if the cloud drive was read like a music folder rather than uploading them into an impossible to decipher mess of folders and metadata. When uploading it should copy the user’s filestructure. I have music on my dropbox already, I don’t want to reupload it all. Let me listen to what is already there.

I’m glad to see that support for BitCasa was added!!!
Now you need to add support for

    PogoPlug Cloud

I already have unlimited cloud storage plus 2 PogoPlug Drives, 1 is connected to my personal network with a 1TB HD & the other is at my brothers house & both PogoPlug Drives sync with the PogoPlug Cloud service, it’s the perfect solution to having a good mix of cloud and local not to mention the ability to setup offsite drives as well. So if you haven’t heard of PogoPlug Cloud look into it! & ADD IT TO CLOUD SYNC!!!!

Thanks for all the hard work guys, you’ve made some major improvements lately and Cloud Sync takes the cake! Love it!!!

    Semper Fi,

    +1 for bitcasa

  215. David December 26th, 2013 5:44 am

BitCasa is way overpriced now. Please consider adding the following:

  216. hy December 27th, 2013 11:17 am

owncloud / webdav would win a lifetime membership from me too.

  217. Leon Funnell December 27th, 2013 1:27 pm

Just tried to get cloud sync to work on Ubuntu Saucy x64. I Set up Dropbox, Copy, Bitcasa and Google Drive (to test the distribution of files across providers). I filtered to movies “on deck” and clicked Sync and selected high on cloud. It said under sync status that is had started transcoding, but I couldnt see anything in the transcode temporary directory I set. I used “ps -aef” and found it was writing to “/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Cache/Transcode/Sync/”. I let it finish over night, then when I came back in the morning it had a picture of a cloud over the icon in cloud sync, and when I clicked the icon it said all the movies were being uploaded to the cloud. I checked every cloud provider however and no files have been generated. I have since linked the transcode directory to an external CIFS share as Plex Server is running on a VM with a compressed ZFS filesystem and doesnt like storing video files too much. This hasnt got me any further. I removed the sync relationship and just tried to sync one video. Same issue – transcodes (albeit much faster than before now it isnt writing to a compressed filesystem), but when it is finished it never actually uploads it. I am not really familiar with the troubleshooting capabilities in Plex. Any ideas why it isn’t uploading? Also, why the transcode isn’t going to the nominated temp directory (movies go to the correct place when transcoding whilst playing, but not while syncing).

Here’s a BONUS 5GB referral link for Copy
    [edited out]
for a total of 20Gb for free!

Copy doesn’t place limits on individual file sizes like other cloud providers, which is perfect for media storage.

  219. D January 1st, 2014 6:23 pm

    Bitcasa support please!

  220. Joe January 2nd, 2014 3:59 am

    +1 ADrive support please!

  221. Mentaleak January 2nd, 2014 7:26 am

I definitely agree that FTP would be the best solution for all of this. Unlimited online storage is relatively cheap via FTP much cheaper than any of the file sync companies

  222. elan January 2nd, 2014 9:34 am

    @D ~ it’s been added :)

  223. Gustavo January 3rd, 2014 8:45 am

Bitcasa is no more unlimited as u say here?

+1 to some FTP uploading, i have already 100GB for use.

And.. what about to sync to plex cloud? i think if u do it cost razonable. everyone will pay for it.

Bye and thanks for this lovely Plex!!

  224. Gustavo January 3rd, 2014 8:51 am

+1 Pogoplug i forgot! its awesome

  225. looselyhuman January 3rd, 2014 10:01 am

If anyone can answer this… I’ve got my cloudsync provider linked, but I cannot figure out how to sync content. In the devices tab in server config I do see the provider, but no other options. In the sync menu are only quality settings… From the web app, I see no “sync” option at either the channel, series, or media level. From my Android app, the only sync option is to use local storage.

The cloudsync forum link doesn’t seem to work, either, or I would post it there…

  226. elan January 3rd, 2014 1:23 pm

@looselyhuman ~ as long as you’re signed in with a Plex Pass account you should see the sync button in Plex web app; also, the Cloud Sync forum requires you’re signed in.

  227. Jakoozie January 3rd, 2014 3:52 pm

This is intriguing, but with cloud storage prices such as they are today, it’s not really a viable option for me. What I have done is set up my computer to go into sleep after a small period of inactivity, but with wake on lan enabled. As soon as I launch Plex on any of my devices my computer boots automatically, and the streaming doesn’t skip a beat.

  228. Mike N January 4th, 2014 10:27 am

    @Leon Funnell

I have exactly the same problem of cloud sync getting stuck in ‘uploading to cloud’ and no files appear on either dropbox or bitcasa but the folders are created. I left it running overnight on a 10MB video and it was still ‘uploading’ in the morning. So cloud sync isn’t working very well. I’m running 9.8.18 version of server.

@Loosly Human, just go to in your browser, login and then click on your username at the top which shows you your account status. Next to that is a tab which says cloud sync where you can setup your cloud providers. Then your plex app will allow for sync to cloud on your content.

  229. Acman January 8th, 2014 12:49 pm

Bitcasa won’t let you backup NAS’S either so another unlimited cloud storage provider is needed. I am trying opendrive now because I have Plex installed on a Synology Nas I want to put all my files in the cloud. Any other good unlimited clouds that allow streaming?

  230. Lee Rogers January 9th, 2014 9:39 am

+1 I have exactly the same problem of cloud sync getting stuck in ‘uploading to cloud’ and no files appear on dropbox. Not sure what diagnostics I can do or logs to offer.

  231. Lee Rogers January 9th, 2014 9:49 am

Also, if it will help in diagnostics, the ‘Cloud Sync’ settings for my Dropbox show:

    Limit: No limit
25.7 GB of 28.9 GB used (12.1 GB used by Cloud Sync)

I don’t see any files in Dropbox consuming the 12.1 GB and doesn’t show anything in the cloud libraries.

  232. Javier January 12th, 2014 4:06 am

Does Sync automatically update Cloud if you synced the whole section and a new file is added?

  233. Shay January 12th, 2014 11:54 pm

Love it… Please add support to SkyDrive!

  234. Eon07 January 14th, 2014 11:51 am

    Keen on mega support

  235. Adam January 14th, 2014 2:00 pm

Has anyone utilized OpenDrive with any success? Their pricing for unlimited storage looks reasonable, and I realize that they aren’t (at least not yet) available for Plex CloudSync, but unlimited cloud storage is a good idea, and if it eventually is compatible with CloudSync in Plex then so much the better. Any opinions or experience with OpenDrive?

  236. Mark January 17th, 2014 5:25 am

I run a VPS Plex server through togglebox, had issues with OpenDrive upload being too slow, dropping uploads. Bitcasa has been much better so far, I got a discount by entering a code and it came out to around $85 CDN for having 1tb for a year. Also, opendrive has some sketchy customer service, i asked for a password reset and they just sent me my password from a gmail account. Decided not to trust them with any data after that.

  237. elan January 17th, 2014 10:52 am

@Javier ~ Cloud is kept in sync with your server, so if you add new files, they’ll be picked up.

  238. Javier January 17th, 2014 11:35 am

    Great! Thanks!

  239. Javier January 18th, 2014 4:12 am

For next releases: it would be grrat uploading each file after trascoding it instead of waiting to transcode the whole section.

In addition, a technical detail about sync quality would be great. What does “High Quality” exactly means? I mean: What quality should you use if you want to keep the original´s one?

  240. Rayven January 21st, 2014 12:29 pm

Any way we can get a feature for plex to see files we just drop in our cloud storage instead of having to transcode them first then play a guessing game as to if the upload is working or not? I like the whole idea, but right now it’s just not there yet. If we could tell it to look in that plex sync folder, or any folder for that matter, after linking the account for any files already there, maybe it would work better that way?

  241. Rayven January 21st, 2014 12:31 pm

Sorry, meant for my post to say that the feature idea would be for cloud sync if it wasn’t clear.

  242. Javier January 21st, 2014 3:19 pm

I got your point. Your idea about having somehow a queue showing syn backlog & status(pending to transcode, transcoding, pending to upload, uploading, uploaded)looks fine too. You always can see files being trascoded at your local machine (/plex/library/application support/plex media server/cache/transcode/sync/…cloud link Id../..sync session Id..) but your idea is better. My point was intended to close the gap mentioned: you never start to see files at cloud if the whole section (group of files synced) haven´t been fully trascoded and are located at the mentioned directory. If you are syncing a huge section, starting to see files at cloud takes a long, long time (eg days) and you´ll never be sure everything is working properly (just a little frustrating :-)).

  243. Jesse Hipwell January 21st, 2014 11:38 pm

When will JustCloud be added to the list of cloud servers?

  244. Rayven January 22nd, 2014 7:25 am

I’d be happy with a progress bar and actual error messages in the sync status that something is wrong during uploads instead of having to dig through the logs to find out but that’s just me. All I’m wanting though for cloud sync is a way to basically link the cloud storage account, tell it to look in folder xyz (plex sync folder or whatever I want) and it just look at the files and match them up like it does locally, then list them as part of cloud sync. To me, the idea of transcoding them first then pushing them to the server is fine, but when all of my files are in mp4 format that all of my devices can use already, why am I transcoding them again to push them to cloud storage and play a guessing game as to if it worked or not when I might already have the files there and it could just see them and go “oh, hey, I know that video, let’s just add it to the list!” *shrugs*

Anyway, sorry if I sound like I’m complaining when I’m not. I love the cloudsync feature, just don’t understand the reasoning behind some decisions in how it works I guess. I do love plex though and Elan and everyone else working on plex are doing a great job. Wouldn’t have bought my lifetime plexpass if I didn’t. Thanks and keep up the good work.

  245. keemeee January 22nd, 2014 8:06 pm

tencent! WE NEED TENCENT! i got 10tb data there! tencent!

  246. elan January 23rd, 2014 10:24 am

@Rayven ~ We’re working on making progress more visible :)

  247. m3ki January 25th, 2014 3:43 pm

I would love if you added support for bittorrent sync.

  248. Duzel January 27th, 2014 6:51 am

  252. Justin January 29th, 2014 6:51 am

How do I remove something from my cloud sync when I don’t want it in there anymore? I am using drop box.

  253. elan January 29th, 2014 12:35 pm

@Justin ~ stop it from syncing in the web app, and the next cloud sync which runs will delete the items from Dropbox.

  254. Duzel January 31st, 2014 6:20 am

@elan – How do I stop this error message in my server log:

Plex, change the Box Acount to Paid!

  256. Justin February 1st, 2014 7:37 pm

How do I stop it from syncing?

  257. elan February 5th, 2014 11:25 am

@Justin: remove all the Cloud Synced items in the web interface, and it’ll delete them on the cloud and stop syncing.

  258. Volker February 9th, 2014 5:02 am

This feature seems such a good idea but I notice on the forums that Cloud Sync does not actually work for users.
    Here is my experience:
I Cloud Synced three movies to Google Drive and synced one movie to my Android phone.
When I click on Plex Home and then click on Library and then click on the Movie Cloud Sync icon, I do not see the Cloud Synced movies. When I go to http://localhost:32400/web/index.html#!/sync I can see the movies that I previously Cloud synced. When I click on one of these movies, it says that the movie is being uploaded to the Cloud. When I click on the movie that I synced to my Android phone, I see a message that says “The sync path is unavailable”.
Is anyone experiencing these problems or am I doing something incorrectly?

  259. elan February 12th, 2014 9:54 pm

@Duzel ~ recommend you post to the forum, where our Cloud Sync guys can reply and help :)

  260. elan February 12th, 2014 9:54 pm

@Duzel ~ not a critical error, most of a “I’m surprised this happened, but continuing on with life.”

  261. terspe February 13th, 2014 6:42 am

adding request for Mega and a french provider, hubiC, who provides as low as 10TB for 10€/month

  262. Dwayne February 15th, 2014 3:13 am

If I delete items from my local plex library do they delete from cloud storage as well. I have limited storage space on my PC and would love to use cloud storage with Plex

  263. elan February 15th, 2014 2:30 pm

    @Dwayne ~ yes.

  264. Hellfrog February 23rd, 2014 10:22 am

I’m confused too as to the true advantage .. sure, syncing ‘off PC’ to stream from sounds nice but why not have cloud simply act as a source for content in a library like any other drive? I don’t need plex to manage the cloud, the storage provider syncs from my system just find … I want to add a cloud storage repository as a sole place for content …

Have I missed something? Does content stay there regardless of whether I have it on my ‘server’ in the original library?

  265. Hellfrog February 23rd, 2014 10:23 am

perhaps the ‘smart rules’ that are eluded to make more sense but I haven’t exploited them yet.

  266. Juan Fermin February 23rd, 2014 7:17 pm

How about Cubby from LogMeIn, I was just sent an offer of just $3.99 a month for 100GB, but I’d like to know you guys will support it before I dive in.

  267. Tiberiu February 25th, 2014 8:55 pm

Does CloudSync syncs videos at original resolution or it converts them before uploading into the cloud?

  268. Agor February 27th, 2014 5:37 am pls!
Is the best (big amount / price) service.

I’ll renew for sure my plex pass for this great product!

  269. elan March 8th, 2014 10:51 am

@Tiberiu ~ it generally converts them for maximum compatibility.

  270. Roddneyuk March 11th, 2014 8:35 pm

Can someone tell me how you get unlimited storage on Bitcasa for free, ive just looked and it says £70/month.

  271. Roddneyuk March 11th, 2014 8:44 pm

Scratch my previous post, just found a news report saying they upped there prices.

    +1 for pogoplug please.

  272. wwwizzarrdry March 14th, 2014 7:27 am

ownCloud sync would be great. But Plex could just head in the same direction and slowly become a complete personal cloud server itself. I wouldn’t doubt that cloud syncing is just a stop gap while they set up plex to be a complete file sharing server.

  273. George March 14th, 2014 10:25 am

Would be nice to be able to add multiple Copy or dropbox accounts and let plex manage until full..

  274. Celso March 15th, 2014 3:29 am

    ++1 FTP :-)

  275. Javier March 17th, 2014 1:39 pm

Hi all. After days trying to sync my (huge) media library (video, music & pictures) i confirm that something is wrong (and/or I´m doing it in the wrong way). Could you please explain in depth how sync works and how can we know if something is not working properly? [hundreds of files trascoded & pending to be transferred to my cloud server with apparentky no data flow trhough it] [as files are transcoded and metadata is appearing within plex cloud section but the file itself is not being moved, can we manually copy just the files to cloud forcing them to "appear"??]

    Thanks in advance!

  276. AB March 29th, 2014 3:23 pm

Any plans to add SpiderOak to the available Cloud Sync providers? They have an offer for unlimited storage for $125 USD per year. C’mon SpiderOak!

  277. Scott Miller April 8th, 2014 9:55 am

I would love to see S3 buckets (and perhaps even CloudFront) added to this list. Would be willing to help develop the functionality.
