Getting to know you

| 15 Oct 2009 | by 23 Comments

At least once a year, we like to gather data from our community to learn more about you. This is an invaluable tool for helping us prioritize our work on Plex.

If you wouldn’t mind giving a few minutes of your time, we would really, really appreciate it if you could take our latest survey, which can be found here, and let your voice be heard.

Peace out, and many thanks in advance.

I would love to use PLEX but I don’t own a Mac and never will. Please port to Windows like Boxee did.

  5. Mando October 15th, 2009 1:05 pm

    done. Plex 0wnz :)

@Joshua The point of Plex is to be an optimized media center solution for the Mac. Porting to Windows would completely defeat the purpose of what Plex set out as (XBMC for OS X). If you really want something with the functionality of Plex, then just use XBMC, or swallow your pride and buy a Mac.

Small little bug with the survey:

Question 14 has been set as mandatory, but I don’t own any of those devices!

  9. otto October 15th, 2009 9:45 pm

q.14 needs a “none of the above” option.

  10. Vlaves October 15th, 2009 10:03 pm

Done :) I hope this will push the EyeTV Integration foreward :D

  11. xain09 October 16th, 2009 2:07 am

    Great idea!

  12. CubaMAN October 16th, 2009 5:22 am

    When will this be closed?

PS: Hopefully we get a TV-Plugin for plex in the near future (elgato just released a SDK).

  13. wally007 October 16th, 2009 9:49 pm

so i see that most of you guys put TV front end as your priority numero 1. Me too :-)

How about proper support for DVD playback? That’s my number one. I’m not using DVDs often but when I do it’s always cumbersome. It’s not child or wife proof yet…

  15. Jonas Alexander Larsen October 18th, 2009 8:35 pm

As everybody else, I’ve asked for live TV support as well… I really do hope that this feature is coming soon to Plex

  16. oa-5599 October 18th, 2009 9:01 pm

Survey done. I also look forward to EyeTV integration.

  17. Oyeah October 19th, 2009 3:07 am

Done. BTW: EyeTV would be realy great – im waiting since years that elgato includes a quit eyetv option in full screen mode

  18. kuzya October 20th, 2009 6:29 am

Hi, it still do not works good with Snow Leopard… Please Fix it!

  19. Tobias October 20th, 2009 9:48 am

    Hi there,

the cable/sat question is hard to answer. I dont watch live TV ! All recordings from cable/sat go directly onto the plex folder.

So live TV has dropped to zero with plex, but cable/sat use has increased due to the recordings.

Plex means: watch what you want when you want !

thx for plex, plz dont port it to Windows, improve it for Mac first !
Its the ONLY real media player for the Mac

  20. oos October 21st, 2009 7:08 am

Can you shove a physical dvd in the drive and Plex plays it automaticly yet?

  21. jedi October 22nd, 2009 12:18 am

yeah i own “none of the above” for mandatory question 14 too.

i guess a pvr setup might be nice – does the old xbmc mythtv plugin work on plex, although i think that was just frontend, not actual recording like eyetv.

don’t bother with plex for windows, there’s xbmc for that.

what about the new apple remote, does that work ok, are the extra buttons used? i can’t buy one the new mac mini’s until snow leopard/remote issues are sorted.

is anyone working on the uk tv plugins – iplayer still has issues/limitations and 4od/demandfive don’t even work anymore, anyone working on itvplayer?

  22. knowlr October 25th, 2009 4:09 am

Concentrate on the core application (remotes, Snow Leopard, Library, Performance and DVD!) and good integration with established products like EyeTV, SqueezeServer, home automation apps etc…

Plug-ins – not really a lot of use in the UK, sorry. Ones that are good (like the ones mentioned above) aren’t supported anymore or being developed. So to be honest not really bothered about them at all…

Please, easy DVD disc playback for the non-tech savvy people in our home. Seems like this is a popular one, both this year and last year, but it still hasn’t happened. Netflix and Blockbuster online are not going away any time soon… make it easy for wives and kids to play DVDs.
When my wife tries to use Plex, she goes into “Watch Movies” to try and play the DVD she just put in. But its not there.
Even better, just start playing the movie….
